LASER TREATMENTS IN SHREWSBURY

We offer consultant dermatologist led laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments for a wide variety of dermatological skin conditions, aesthetic treatments and to treat skin cancer. These include removal of skin blemishes and pigmentation, treatment of vascular skin lesions and redness, rosacea, facial and leg thread veins, acne scarring and rejuvenation.

Lasers work by giving off a very strong light of a single wavelength which is able to be absorbed into the tissue it is targeting. The light is absorbed into the area of treatment and converted into heat, destroying the target. As this all happens very quickly, there is little time for the heat to affect any nearby areas so the risk of scarring is very minimal. The most common use of lasers described below.

WHAT CONDITIONS DO YOU TREAT WITH A LASER?

Lasers can be used to treat a variety of skin blemishes such as age spots, acne scars, rosacea and other brown skin blemishes. Lasers and IPLs break down the colouring in the treated areas over a series of visits.

Lasers can be used to treat facial and leg thread veins, spider veins, vascular birthmarks, haemangioma and the veins and redness of rosacea. The lasers work in these treatments by targeting blood cells.

We can use lasers in the form of skin resurfacing and photorejuvenation to reduce fine thread veins, brown or red pigments and wrinkles to make the skin appear more youthful.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Laser treatments are usually scheduled at 6-week intervals, but often just one session is sufficient, depending on your individual response. IPL treatments may be repeated every 3-4 weeks for a course of 4 sessions.

There are certain lesions that can be treated in just one session, and these include the so-called liver or age spots, benign lentigo and freckles. However, for lesions with deeper lying pigment, multiple treatment sessions may be necessary e.g. pigmented birthmarks, such as café-au-lait spots.
