Microneedling, or medical skin needling is a treatment used to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and is also very effective in the treatment of acne scarring. The treatment is commonly used on the face, hands, neck and decolletage to reduce scarring, stretch marks and fine wrinkles such as crows feet.
The treatment works by stimulating the body’s own collagen production by puncturing the skin with lots of tiny needles, which creates wounds in the dermis which induces the release of growth factors, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This damage to do the dermis encourages the body to produce more collagen and elastin to repair itself, making the skin smoother, plumper and more youthful.

Here at St Michael’s Clinic, we use the SkinPen for microneedling. SkinPen stimulates the skin’s natural ability to repair itself. The SkinPen comfortably creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process. This process results in skin remodeling, including the formation of collagen and elastin, the two proteins predominantly responsible for the structure of the skin.
What you can expect from SkinPen treatment:
- A comfortable experience
- A short procedure time, approximately 30 minutes
- A plan for optimal results, usually 3-6 sessions are required
- Mild post-procedure effects on the treated area which are similar to mild sunburn
- Effective on all areas of the body
- Safe for all skin types
- Treatment effective at all times of the year
- Little to no downtime
- Long lasting results
