EXCESSIVE SWEATING Treatments Include:

HYPERHIDROSIS Treatment IN SHREWSBURY

Everyone sweats to some extent. This is an important process to help the body to control its temperature and hydrate the skin. Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating far beyond what the body needs to regulate body temperature. For people suffering with excessive sweating, it causes problems with needing to wash more frequently and changing clothes, sometimes several times a day. It can occur on any part of your body but most often is found under your arms, on the palms of hands, soles of feet, forehead and upper lip and trunk of the body. This can have a serious effect on your working and social life. Hyperhidrosis tends to start in adolescence or childhood.

TREATING EXCESSIVE SWEATING

Various treatments are available at St Michael’s Clinic for excessive sweating. This may include prescription medication, Botox injections and other therapies including iontophoresis to help with hand and foot hyperhidrosis.

BOTOX INJECTIONS

Injections of Botulinum Toxin can be used to treat excessive sweating, particularly in the armpits. Treatment involves injecting the substance using very small needles into the skin in small doses. It works by reducing the activity of the sweat glands, minimising sweating. This treatment is very effective and typically lasts around 4-7 months.

IONTOPHORESIS

Iontophoresis is effective for treating hyperhidrosis in the hands, feet and underarms and is effective in 70-80% of patients. A low voltage electrical current is passed through the skin which is immersed in a shallow tray of water. Iontophoresis is very safe and there are no serious side effects. A course of treatment is required, typically seven treatment sessions over a four week period with top up sessions as required.
